Very fast...and very busy.

Uwe Alzen is one of Europe's most active racing drivers. The 30 year old is one of the few whose career did not start with karting at a very young age. In 1986, at the comparatively old age of 19, he began competing in regional car slalom events.

Alzen's first successes came quickly. The new-comer stepped into the limelight after regularly managing to keep his well-equipped rivals at bay while piloting technically inferior cars.

In 1990, due to a downturn in sponsorship support, Uwe Alzen financed himself into motorsport's higher categories. He competed in Germany's Langstreckenpokal (long-distance cup) at the wheel of a Porsche on the grueling Nürburgring Nordschliefe circuit.

One year later, the 24-year-old rising talent celebrated his victory in the Langstrecken Junior Trophy. While competing in the national Porsche Carrera Cup, he became familiar with other challenging circuits besides his beloved Eifel race track. After snatching an overall win in the fiercely contested Carrera Cup of 1992, the Porsche specialist was ready to take on tougher challenges.

A real break-through came in 1993. Spending virtually every weekend at the race track, Alzen was vice-champion in the international Porsche Supercup, best privateer in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), and winner of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps in a Porsche. Moreover, he won the Langstreckenpokal race on the Nürburgring and emerged from two guest appearances with Porsche as victor of the ADAC GT Cup.

In 1994, he cruised to victory ahead of many distinguished opponents in the Porsche Supercup and secured the champion's title. Thanks to his determined and competitive style, he once again finished the DTM as the best private driver.

One year later Uwe Alzen won the ADAC GT Cup - a title which had been missing form his collection. Successful starts in the DTM, the International Touring Car Championship (ITC) and the Langsteckenpokal (two wins, as always, with Porsche) made the 1995 season another "Alzen-year".

Although he had been racing professionally for quite some time, Alzen clinched his first works driver contract with Opel in the 1996 ITC. Three second places, three thirds, and one pole position were a great recommendation of the next season. After the ITC had finished, Alzen made headlines for Opel in Germany's super Touring Championship (STW) with his assertive driving and determination to win.
