The insight David Murry brings to our coverage of Le Mans 1998 comes
from a unique perspective: namely, the cockpit of the Joest Porsche
Racing Team WSC car that ran away with last year's race. This year he'll
be sharing the driving responsibilities with Michele Alboreto and Stefan
Johansson, both of whom stood atop the podium a year ago. And he'll be
sharing his impressions and insights during the race with us as part of
our exclusive coverage of the 66th running of Le Mans. In his journal
entries, Murry chronicals his behind-the-scenes experiences with Porsche
leading up to and through his first journey to the hallowed Sarthe
Circuit.
Murry began his association with Porsche in 1992 and promptly recorded three wins in the Firestone Firehawk series driving a Porsche 968 during the 1992 and 1993 seasons. He went on to claim the Firehawk driver's championship and manufacturer's title for Porsche in 1994 in that same 968, winning five races. He also finished second in the prestigious Porsche Cup driver's standings.
Murry's most recent championship came in 1995 with the SCCA's World Challenge driver's crown. While winning five of eight races, he helped Porsche to the manufacturer's title. He also won "One Lap of America" for Porsche driving a Porsche 911 Turbo. In 1997, Murry was the lead driver in a Porsche 911 RSR for Jim Matthews Racing in Professional Sportscar Racing's Exxon Supreme GT Series. He finished third in the GTS-3 drivers championship, winning two races.
