"Race Day: Epilogue"

When I awoke from my brief rest early Sunday morning, I learned that our No. 8 car had been retired. James Weaver went out and ran for awhile on the intermediates, then came in for dry tires. He ran for about half an hour more before the rear deck blew off. The contact with the guard rail must have popped the catches that hold the tail out of place. James came in for an inspection, and Porsche decided to retire the car.

It was a disappointing end, to be sure, but there's nothing we could do about it. If your racing career lasts long enough, you're bound to have your fair share of disappointments. With the exception of this incident, my first experience at Le Mans was tremendous. I learned a lot about the race, and it's incredibly tough to win.

Before I raced at Le Mans, I didn't have the same concept of the race that I do now. I have a much greater appreciation for it, and I understand why guys like Pierre Raphanel and Bob Wollek want to win this race so badly. It's huge!

I hope that I'll be back next year to give it another go, particularly since I learned so much this time around.

Thanks to everyone for their interest!

Sincerely,

David Murry
