Sunday Noon.
By Joe Hansen
Weather update: Although the skys above are dark with clouds, the weather this morning has been dry, cold and windy. The flags flying above the press box are waving briskly in the late-morning breeze.
On the track, however, the action is red hot. With just under three hours remaining, Thierry Boutsen in the Toyota GT One #29 is padding his lead slightly with each lap around the track. As it stands now, the lead is 1:17. Porsche #25 is still in third, approximately a lap and a half back of the leader.
We haven't mentioned the races in the prototype and GT2 categories in quite some time, and with good reason. The Ferrari 333 SP driven by the team of Taylor/Vandepoele/Velez is a whopping 18 laps in front of the nearest competitor in its class, a Kremer K8/2. And the #53 Viper continues to remain three laps up on the second-place Porsche #64, a 911 GT2 piloted by the team of Hurtgen/Ligonnet/Nearn.
