cable-operated shift mechanism reduces both weight and vibration. Or
you can opt for the latest 5-speed version of Porsche's revolutionary
Tiptronic S dual-function transmission.
In full auto mode, Tiptronic S does the shifting for you, choosing
from one of five shift mapping options, ranging from economy to sport,
based on how aggressively you work the throttle. The sophisticated
computer-control software downshifts automatically under hard braking,
holds a lower gear through the entire corner, even upshifts to reduce
torque when it senses wheelspin.
Move the shift lever into the manual position and you get the active
participation of Formula-One-style clutchless shifting. Toggle either
thumb control up or down and the shift is completed in two tenths of a
second. Meanwhile, the engine management system automatically adjusts
the engine's ignition and subsequent power output to smooth out shifts
and prevent you from ever over-revving the engine.
